Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the history of urban planning. One key figure is Ebenezer Howard, who in 1898 proposed the idea of the 'Garden City'. He envisioned self-contained communities surrounded by greenbelts, combining the benefits of city and country. Interestingly, his plan was not just about housing, but also about land ownership. Howard suggested that land should be owned by the community, not private developers, to prevent speculation and ensure profits were reinvested in the community. However, his ideas were only partially realized in places like Letchworth and Welwyn, where financial constraints led to modifications. Nevertheless, his concepts influenced later suburban development worldwide.
