Professor: Today we're discussing the impact of urbanization on local wildlife. One key finding from recent studies is that while some species struggle, others adapt remarkably well. For example, peregrine falcons have been observed nesting on skyscrapers in major cities, using the ledges as substitutes for cliff faces. Interestingly, their diet in urban areas consists mainly of pigeons, which are abundant. However, the noise pollution in cities can disrupt their communication, and artificial lighting at night may confuse their hunting patterns. Despite these challenges, urban falcon populations have remained stable over the past decade, unlike rural populations which have declined due to habitat loss.
❓ According to the professor, what has happened to peregrine falcon populations in urban areas over the last ten years?
