Today we're discussing the impact of urban green spaces. A recent study from the University of Melbourne found that parks can reduce local temperatures by up to 4 degrees Celsius during heatwaves. However, the researchers also noted that the cooling effect diminishes significantly if the park is smaller than two hectares. For larger parks, the benefit extends to surrounding areas, but for small ones, it only affects the immediate vicinity. The study suggests that city planners should prioritize creating a few large parks rather than many tiny ones, as this maximizes the cooling benefit for residents.
❓ What does the study suggest about urban parks in relation to temperature?
A. Small parks cool the entire city effectively.
B. Parks larger than two hectares have a limited cooling effect.
C. Small parks only cool their immediate surroundings.
D. The size of a park does not affect its cooling impact.
✅ Correct Answer
C. Small parks only cool their immediate surroundings.
