Good morning, everyone. Today we're continuing our discussion on urban planning. One key concept is the '15-minute city', where residents can access most daily needs within a short walk or bike ride from home. This model aims to reduce car dependency and improve quality of life. However, critics point out that in many existing cities, infrastructure like hospitals and large supermarkets cannot easily be relocated. Therefore, successful implementation often requires redesigning public spaces and encouraging mixed-use development. For example, in Paris, local authorities have converted underused parking lots into community gardens and small markets, which has increased foot traffic and social interaction. Yet, achieving this in sprawling suburbs remains a significant challenge due to lower population density.
❓ According to the lecture, what is a main challenge for implementing the '15-minute city' model in sprawling suburbs?

B. Low population density makes services less accessible
C. Existing hospitals and supermarkets are too large
D. Residents prefer driving over walking or cycling
✅ Correct Answer
