TOEFLスピーキング Task 2

Campus Announcement: Extended Library Hours Starting Next Month. The university library will extend its operating hours to 24/5 (Monday through Friday) beginning next month. This change aims to provide more flexible study time for students, especially during exam periods. To accommodate this, additional security staff will be hired, and a small fee will be added to student activity fees to cover the costs.

M: Did you see the announcement about the library staying open 24 hours? I think it's a great idea. W: Really? I'm not so sure. I mean, most students don't study that late anyway. And the extra fee on top of our already high tuition? That's a burden. M: But think about it—during finals, the library is packed, and many of us have no quiet place to study at night. I've had to study in the dorm lobby before. W: I guess that's true, but I still think it's unnecessary. They could just open a few study rooms instead of the whole library. That would save money. M: But a dedicated space with resources is better. Also, the fee is small, and it's worth it for the flexibility. Many students work part-time and only have time to study late. W: I see your point, but I'm worried about the cost for all students, even those who won't use it. Why should I pay for something I don't need? M: Well, I support it fully. I think the benefits outweigh the costs.
