The university will now require all freshmen to live on campus for their first year. The policy aims to increase student involvement in campus life and improve academic support. To accommodate this, the university will renovate two residence halls and offer a new mentoring program, pairing each freshman with an upperclassman advisor. Students who commute from home within 30 miles may apply for an exemption.

M: Did you see the announcement about the new on-campus living rule? I think it's a great idea. W: Really? I'm not so sure. It seems like a big change, especially for students who live close by. M: But think about it—living on campus helps freshmen feel more connected. They'll join clubs and study groups more easily. My cousin didn't live on campus, and he felt left out all year. W: That's true, but what about the cost? Dorms are expensive, and some students might struggle to pay for it. M: Well, the mentoring program is a big plus. Freshmen get advice from older students, which can really help with adjusting to classes. That's worth a lot. W: I guess, but I still think forcing everyone to live on campus is too restrictive. M: The exemption is there for local students, but for most, it's a chance to build a stronger community. I support it.
