TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Starting next semester, the university will extend the library's hours to 24/7 during finals week. This change aims to provide students with more flexible study spaces during the most stressful period. Additional security staff will be hired, and a quiet study floor will be designated. The extended hours will be funded by a small increase in the student activity fee.

W: Did you see the announcement about the library being open all night during finals? I think it's a great idea. M: Really? I'm not so sure. It seems like a waste of money. W: How so? Finals week is when everyone needs to study the most. M: But most students already have access to dorms or apartments where they can study. And the extra fee is annoying, especially for those who might not even use the library at night. W: True, but the library has resources like reference books and quiet spaces that dorms don't have. Plus, I often find it hard to concentrate at home. M: I get that, but I still think the fee should be optional. If they want to stay open, they should charge only those who use it. W: But that would be complicated to enforce. I think the benefit of a 24-hour library outweighs the small cost for everyone. M: I just don't think it's fair for those who never step in there at night.
