Announcement: Starting next semester, the university will extend library hours to 2 a.m. on weekdays to support late-night studying. To cover additional staffing and utility costs, a mandatory student activity fee will increase by $50 per semester. The extended hours will apply to all campus libraries, and a new quiet study zone will be added on the third floor of the main library.

M: Did you see the announcement about the library hours? I think it's a great move. I'm always struggling to find a quiet place to study after 10 p.m. W: True, but I'm not so sure. The fee increase bothers me. I rarely use the library after midnight, so I'd be paying for something I don't need. M: But think about it—you might need it during finals. Plus, the new quiet zone will benefit everyone, not just night owls. W: I suppose, but $50 is a lot for me. I'd rather they spent money on more afternoon workshops. M: Those are helpful, but I think late-night access is more critical for many of us. With the extended hours, I can balance my part-time job and study better. W: I get that, but I still feel the fee should be optional. M: Well, if it's optional, fewer students would pay, and the library might not afford to stay open. At least this way, we all share the benefit and cost.
