TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Announcement: Starting next semester, the university will extend library hours to 2 AM on weekdays and 24 hours on weekends. To accommodate this, the library will reduce the number of study rooms available for group booking, converting some into open study areas. The administration believes this change will better serve students' late-night study needs.

Woman: Did you see the new library hours? I'm thrilled! I always pull all-nighters before exams, and the current 10 PM closing is way too early. Man: Really? I'm not so happy about it. I rely on those group study rooms for my project meetings. With fewer rooms, it'll be a nightmare to book one. Woman: I get that, but think about it—most students study alone at night. The open areas are perfect for that. Man: But group projects are due throughout the semester, not just finals. And we need quiet, enclosed spaces for discussions. Open areas are too noisy. Woman: Well, I still think the extended hours benefit more students. Late-night individual study is more common. Man: Maybe, but the announcement doesn't mention any plan to add more group rooms during the day. That's a real problem.
