TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Announcement: The university will extend library hours to 24/7 starting next semester to accommodate students' diverse study schedules. Additionally, a new quiet study floor will be added on the third floor to minimize distractions. The extended hours will require additional security and maintenance staff, which will be funded by a small increase in student activity fees.

Woman: Did you see the announcement about the library? I'm really excited! Finally, I can pull all-nighters before exams without being kicked out at midnight. Man: I get the appeal, but I'm not happy about the fee increase. We already pay so much in fees, and I rarely use the library at night. Woman: But think about it—many students, especially those with part-time jobs, need late-night access. It's a necessary service. Man: Maybe, but why should everyone pay? And the quiet floor? The library is already quiet enough. That seems like a waste of money. Woman: Actually, the quiet floor is great—I've been distracted by group study sessions on the second floor. I think it's worth it. Man: I still think they should find other funding. Raising fees hits all students, even those who don't benefit.
