📖 เนื้อเรื่อง

The introduction of a four-day workweek—where employees work four longer days instead of the traditional five—has been proposed as a way to improve productivity and well-being. However, this model presents significant drawbacks that outweigh its benefits. First, longer shifts lead to increased fatigue and reduced cognitive performance. Studies show that after eight hours of continuous work, attention and accuracy decline sharply, making the final hours of a ten-hour shift inefficient and prone to errors. Second, a compressed schedule creates logistical challenges for businesses that rely on daily customer service or cross-team collaboration. Clients expect availability five days a week, and with only four working days, coverage gaps emerge, forcing companies to either hire additional staff—raising costs—or reduce service quality. Third, the four-day week can blur the boundary between work and personal life. When employees work longer days, they have less energy for family and leisure on those days, and the extra day off may be consumed by catching up on tasks or recovering from exhaustion, not by genuine rest. Thus, while appealing in theory, a four-day workweek risks harming both employee health and organizational performance.
