📖 เนื้อเรื่อง

The construction of large-scale solar power plants in desert regions has been proposed as a key solution to global energy demands. While this approach seems environmentally friendly, several critical drawbacks make it less viable than often claimed. First, desert solar plants require vast amounts of water for cooling and cleaning solar panels. In arid regions, water is scarce, and diverting it from local ecosystems or communities could lead to severe shortages. For example, the Ivanpah Solar Plant in California consumes millions of gallons of water annually, straining local water resources. Second, the transmission of electricity from remote desert locations to urban centers is inefficient and costly. High-voltage power lines lose energy over long distances, and building new transmission infrastructure across deserts and mountains entails enormous financial and logistical challenges. Third, desert solar installations disrupt fragile ecosystems. Construction and maintenance activities can damage soil, threaten native species, and alter local climate patterns through the heat island effect. Thus, despite their clean energy potential, desert solar plants pose significant environmental and economic problems that question their overall sustainability.
