📖 읽기 지문

The discovery of ancient human remains in the Americas has long been interpreted through the "Clovis-first" model, which posits that the Clovis culture, characterized by distinctive spear points, was the first to populate the New World around 13,000 years ago. This theory rests on three main pillars. First, Clovis sites are the oldest widely accepted archaeological evidence, with dates clustering around 13,000 years ago. No older, indisputable human artifacts have been found, suggesting a rapid migration across the Bering Land Bridge. Second, the Clovis toolkit is remarkably consistent across North America, implying a single, technologically unified population that spread quickly. This uniformity is seen as a hallmark of a founder group. Third, the extinction of megafauna such as mammoths and mastodons coincides with the appearance of Clovis hunters, and their distinctive projectile points are often found with animal remains, supporting the idea that these efficient hunters caused the extinctions through overhunting. Thus, Clovis-first remains the most parsimonious explanation for the peopling of the Americas.
